Civil Weddings in Italy take place at town halls and at special locations owned or partly owned by the town halls. There are many beautiful locations available and subject to what you are looking for, we will recommend the most suitable venue.
Unlike the UK, Italian town halls are located in beautiful buildings, and many provide open air spaces with or without a view.
By law the ceremony can only be celebrated in Italian, and this is why an interpeter must be present.
Rules and regulations:
.Each town hall has its own rules and regulations and therefore wedding days, times, hall hire and other administration costs are decided by the town hall.
.Some town halls will confirm your wedding one year in advance, others 6 months before your wedding date.
.Some town halls will only confirm your wedding on receipt of your paperwork, and we do not usually reccommend these town halls as we beleive the wedding couple should have at least 6 months notice to organize the wedding. However for those providing us with short notice, we will be happy to include these town halls in our proposals.
.Some town halls allow weddings during the week, at the weekend, during the morning and/ or afternoon. If allowed, weddings on Saturdays, Sundays and festivities are usually charged at higher fees.
Legal requirements:
.You must be over 18.
.You must have a valid UKpassport, or other type of passport, and if you are not part of EU you will need a Visa to enter Italy.
.A minimum of two witnesses are required by Italian law. If you are eloping to Italy and do not have witnesses, We Do Weddings by A&J can provide you with this service.
.2/3 working days before the wedding ceremony a declaration must take place. This is a legal requirement for all legally binding weddings. We will be able to confirm how many days prior the wedding you need to do the delcaration once we know where you wish to get married.
.Italian residency is not required.
.Non-Resident couples and non-Italian couples are charged hgher fees than residents, hence why a town hall wedding in Italy sounds more expensive than a town hall wedding in the UK.
.The paperwork procedure and cost of the town hall is subject to your nationalities. Our prices are based on British and Irish couples getting married in Italy. If you have different nationalities we will reconfirm the prices subject to the information you provide us with. .There is a set of paperwork you need to provide and for which you need to apply here in the UK. We Do Weddings by A&J will provide you with full professional guidance and advise for the paperwork required to get married in Italy, as well as ensure that your paperwork reaches destination.
.The Town hall issues the civil wedding certificate. This is either issued on the wedding day or after the wedding day. If it is issued after the wedding day, it will be sent to you by We Do Weddings by A&J.
Bookings:
We usually recommend that you give yourself at least 3 months time when you book a town hall wedding, and this is because of the paperwork procedure. We accept bookings provided that the bride and groom give us a minimum of 3 months notice. Couples wanting to get married in one or two months time will not be assisted unless their paperwork is ready to be sent to Italy.
