Information:

.Catholic weddings can only take place at consecrated churches or chapels.

.Not all churches allow wedding for non-Italian citizens, and this is why you are not able to have a catholic wedding everywhere in Italy. This is a decision which can only be made by the local district Curia, therefore please note that at times the parish priest changes and the district Curia may refuses to allow weddings at particular churches.

.Each church has is own rules and regulations, and this mean that you can only get married at specific days and time. If you have special request We Do Weddings by A&J will make an enquiry to the parish priest.

.Some churches are able to provide an English speaking priest, and some churches can only provide an Italian speaking priest and an English speaking Interpreter. This is subject to the church and who is available to celebrate your ceremony. The English speaking priest could be English, American, Eastern European, Indian or of other nationality.

.Churches are usually able to confirm a wedding well in advance, however this is always on request.

.Please note that it is very important that before you book your Catholic wedding you speak to your parish priest about it as you will need his written permission.

.We Do Weddings by A&J will be able to provide you with assitance regarding the legal and the relgious paperwork to get married in Italy, however please note that your riest will be responsible for the religious paperwork.

.When the paperwork is ready we will provide you with the full address of where it needs to be sent.

.Catholic weddings are legally binding

Church requirements:

.Either the bride or the groom must be Catholic and must have received the three Holy sacraments. If these have not been received and you are planning the wedding well in advance, you should speak to your parish priest who will be able to advise you further and sign you in a course.

.If you are both Catholic, you must both have received the Holy Sacraments.

.The priest will ask you to do a marriage course, and this is usually requested by the Italian priest too.

Legal requirements:

.You must be over 18.

.You must have a valid UK passport, or other type of passport, and if you are not part of EU you will need a Visa to enter Italy.

.A minimum of two witnesses are required by Italian law. If you are eloping to Italy and do not have witnesses, We Do Weddings by A&J can provide you with this service.

.2/3 working days before the wedding ceremony a declaration must take place. This is a legal requirement for all legally binding weddings. We will be able to confirm how many days prior the wedding you need to do the delcaration once we know where you wish to get married, as remember that each town hall has its rules and regulations.

.The church issues the religious wedding certificate. This is usually issued on the wedding day and handed to you. If this is issued after the wedding day, it will be sent to you.

.The Town hall issues the civil wedding certificate. This will be issued after the wedding day and will be sent to you.

Useful information:

.Only Holy music is allowed.

.Flowers are allowed, however some churches may require that these are left as a donation.

.One photographer and assistant and one Videopgrapher are usually allowed at the ceremony area.

.Bride and Bridesmaids should have their shoulder covered during the ceremony.

.Communion and Offertory take place during the service.

.A donation to the priest is usually given after the wedding ceremony.

.Catholic Weddings are legally binding and usually only one ceremony takes place; however some churches may require that the bride and groom are legally married before they have the Catholic wedding. This is subject to the churches rules and regulations and we will confirm this to you each time.

Prices:

.Each Church has a cost which is applied subject to your nationalities and to the wedding date selected.

.There is also a cost to apply to have an English speaking priest.

.We Do Weddings by A&J is able to provide the whole wedding package.

Bookings:

.We usually recommend that you give yourself between 8 and 12 months time when you book a church wedding, and this is because of the paperwork procedure. We accept bookings provided that the bride and groom give us a minimum of 6 months notice. Couples wanting to get married in one or two months time will not be assisted unless their paperwork is ready to be sent to Italy.

Many couples worry about the religious and legal paperwork procedures and think it will be a daunting experience. Based on our experience, please note

that the paperwork procedure for a Catholic Wedding in Italy is very straightforward therefore if you intend to marry in a church in Italy you do not need

to worry about this. As long as your priest is happy to assist you with the paperwork procedure, with our assistance you will be fine.
